Gila County Cattle Growers Association Annual Auction
The 48th Annual Gila County Cattle Growers Association Stocker and Replacement Sale was held May 2, 2016 at the Burch Sale Yard near Globe, AZ. The largest sale of its kind in the state sold 2,176 head of cattle from 33 ranches, bringing in approximately $1.8 million.
Though market prices were down, the sale generated an estimated economic impact of $13 million highlighting, once again, the importance of agriculture in our communities and to the County.
The auction itself is cooperatively run and manned by some 40-50 volunteers. Family members and seasoned ranch hands from 8 to 85 work the sale and pre-sale, which began a week earlier as truck and trailer loads of cattle are brought in and sorted.
The Officers and Board of Directors of the Gila County Cattle Growers Association extend sincere thanks to the ranchers and their workers, who volunteered their time and resources to make our Annual Auction a success.
First to thank are Chas Erickson, Sale Chairman, Travis and Media Magill, Joe Lavin and crew, who are legendary for being the driving force behind a successful auction.
Special thanks to Frank DalMolin and crew, John and Elaine McBride, Cindy Tidwell Sheldon, Clay Parsons, Rick Lehman, Grant Boice, Wayne Cumberland, Spider and Clark Erickson, Brent and Janet Cline, John Fowler, and the Gila County Cowbelles.
All-in-all, the success of the 2016 Gila County Auction is due to the teamwork of the ranchers and friends who volunteered their time, skills, supplies, and elbow-grease. From sale yard cleanup to final load-out and everything in between, each person was an integral part of the operation.
Thanks again to all of our members and friends for your help and dedication to the GCCGA. We could never have such a successful event without you!!
