Gila County Cattle Growers Annual Salute to Ranching

2017 GCCGA Holiday Salute to Ranching Dinner-Dance and Auction

The Annual GCCGA Holiday Salute to Ranching Dinner-Dance and Auction was held Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the Gila County Fairgrounds.  Following a cooked-to-perfection steak dinner complete with homemade peach cobbler and ice cream provided by Suzanne Menges, Black Hills Catering, the Globe-Miami Regional Chamber of Commerce presented the Rancher and Wrangler of the Year awards.

GCCGA Rancher of the Year 2017 - Nathan Ellison

Rancher of the Year 2017, Nathan Ellison, has been ranching his entire life continuing the Ellison Family tradition started in Arizona in the mid-1880’s.  A staunch supporter of the GCCGA, Ellison Ranch has sold cattle and worked at our Annual Spring Sale since its inception.

Nathan has been instrumental in working to resolve past and current issues such as the USFS closure of the TNF FS203 Road, Mexican Gray Wolf issues, USFS fire management policy and many other issues important to the rancher and communities throughout the state of Arizona.  He is an exemplary steward of the land, a professional hunter, and a wild game guide who is dedicated to the preservation of the cattle industry, our treasured values and western lifestyle that benefits everyone.

Thank you, Nathan, for your many years of guidance, dedication and service.

GCCGA Wrangler of the Year 2017 - John McBride

John McBride was awarded Wrangler of the Year 2017.  John has been a tireless contributor to our association for many years.  Always working behind the scenes, his tasks are many and endless.  From stuffing envelopes, to running for yard clean-up supplies and meals for workers, to set-up and take-down of our dinner, he is counted on.  His ability to capture the true spirit of the Gila County Cattle Growers can be seen the uniquely handcrafted countertop and the tremendous work he has done on the sale office at Burch Sale Yard.

Always supporting our ranchers every chance he gets, whether in casual conversation or comments to a public body, and always ready to help the GCCGA with a cheerful, willing attitude.

Thank you, John, for your help and support throughout the years.

Over 150 guests gathered to enjoy an evening to catch up with old friends and meet and greet new ones, including Arizona State Senator, Frank Pratt, Arizona State Representative, Brenda Barton, and Arizona State Representative, TJ Shope.  All joined in the fun and comradery of and bidding on a variety of live and silent auction holiday gift items ranging from a 5-day vacation in Cancun to rifles, handcrafted yard furniture, tools, and stocking stuffers of toys and gift certificates from several local merchants.

The GCCGA thanks our sponsors, Jill Wilson of Farm Bureau Financial Services and CKP Insurance, and everyone who donated items for our live and silent auctions:  Gila County Supervisor, Tum Humphrey, Steve & Dorothy Bixby, Quarter Circle U Ranch, Bob’s Western Wear of Payson, Conway Feed, Bar X Ranch, Mule Deer Foundation, Darrel’s Fresh Farm Pintos, Vosberg/Marsh Creek Ranch, FFA-Young, AZ, Ruiz Ranch, Rafter P Ranch, Rasmussen Ranch, Outlaw Industrial/Universal Cattle Guards, Janna Cline, MF Ranch, Sundt Corporation,

Your support will help us keep fighting the issues as they arise this next year.
